AdvantEDGE 782.0 Hot Melt
Adhesive Cartidges

Feature / Specification

Adhesive Base: Ethylene-vinyl-acetate copolymers

Specific Weight: Approx. 1.4 g/cm³

Melt Index with DIN 53 735(MFI 150/2.16):50-75 g/10 min

Softening point (ring & ball): 110°C ± 5°C

Heat up time: 2-5 minutes

Speed: 8-20 m/minute depending on machine

Process Temperature: 200°-220°C (392°-428°F)

Working temperature may be increased briefly to 230°C when using woods that are difficult to bond. Watch temperature at nozzle closely when working with decorative laminates and solid wood edges. With long, ridged or thick parts work in the upper temperature range. Low temperatures reduce the "wetting out" of the edges.

Flammability: Ignition > 300°C (588°F approx.)

Storage: 1 year approximately

Colors: White, ivory

Packed Quantity: AdvantEDGE is sold in cases of 45 cartridges

Application Machinery

Automatic edge banding machines with spray nozzle application

Application Techniques

Maximize successful bonding by removing all dust. Acclimate boards and edges to room temperature of at least 18°C (64°F), and avoid drafts. Ideally the moisture content of the wood should be 8-10%. Process substrates precisely at 90° angles. Watch temperature at nozzle closely. Adjust temperature as needed.

Hints for Bonding Solid Wood

Select wood edging with straight, lengthwise grain to avoid the tendency to deflect (plating)

For maximum strength, use the wood edges with the grain standing perpendicular to the bonding surface

Prepare substrate with precision

Avoid a coarse cut surface

The press should be set at a tolerance slightly less than the thickness of the edge

Technique Instructions

Application Quantity: Adjust quantity and pressure until the glue lines are flattened and the glue pearls slightly at the edges. Check the uniformity of the adhesive film with a strip of transparent, rigid PVC.

Post Treatment: Glued material can be sawn, routed, planed, etc. as soon as cool

Cleaning of Machine: Follow manufacturers' directions

Waste Disposal: To dispose hardened adhesive, comply with federal, state, and local regulations.

Service: The statements made above are based upon experience gained to date. They are to be considered as information without obligation. Test and establish for yourself the product's suitability for your particular purposes. No liability exceeding the value of the product.

Caution: Hot Melt Adhesives release unpleasant smelling vapors when heated to the prescribed temperatures. If the temperature is exceeded for an extended time, harmful decomposition products may develop. Always work in an area that has an appropriate ventilation/exhaust system. No labeling is required according to the EEC Directives of dangerous preparations.

AdvantEDGE 779.1 Premium
Hot Melt Adhesive Granules

Properties of the Bond

Heat resistance (depending on the edge) approx. 80°C, and will resist temperatures of up to 120°C for short times in the drying channel

Cold resistance of approx. -20°C (depending on the edge)

Good water resistance (important when staining or bleaching veneer edging)

Good aging and oxidation resistance

Properties of the AdvantEDGE 779.1

Feature: Value

Adhesive Base: EVA-Copolymers

Specific Weight: Approx 1.38 g/cm³

Viscosity (Brookfield HBTD):
at 180°C: 100,000 ± 20,000 mPa s
at 200°C: 50,000 ± 12,000 mPa s

Melt Index with DIN 53 735 (MFI 150?2.16)
50 ± 15g.10 min.

Softening point (ring & ball) 105 ± 5°C

Remelt time for approx. 5kg: Approx. 45 min. Turn on roller at approx. 30 min. Reduce the temperature of machine to 160°C for a long stoppage

Process Temperature: 200°-210°C (392°-410°F) Lower temperatures may prevent adhesion. Lengthy higher temperatures may damage adhesive and cause decomposition.

Application Techniques

Maximize successful bonding by removing all dust and acclimating boards and edges to room temperature of at least 18°C (64°F). Ideally moisture content of the wood should be 8-10%. Avoid drafts and process substrates at precise and correct angles. Use an independent lab, bimetal or electrical contact thermometer, and check it regularly. Adjust temperature as needed.

Technique Instructions

Rate of Feed: 20-30m (70'-100')/min, depending on edge width. A slow line can cause faulty gluing.

Application Quantity: Apply the glue until it shows slightly on the (to be glued) part's edge. Check the uniformity of the adhesive film with a strip of transparent rigid PVC.

Consumption for Precoating Edges: 80-100 g/m2 (3-4 ounce/10.7639 SF)

Post Treatment: Glued material can be sawn, routed, planed, etc. immediately after bonding

Cleaning of Machine: Follow manufacturer's directions

Waste Disposal: Disposal of contents, containers, etc. must comply with federal, state, and local regulations. The 779.1 containers are recyclable.
